Who’s the best? The ultimate guide to hot chips

Hot chips, one of American teens’ favorite snacks, can truly be a hit or miss, whether they are not flavorful enough, not spicy enough, too spicy, or just taste poor. Yet quite often their limey, savory taste is mouth-watering. And so, I decided to put my tastebuds to the test in order to determine which hot chip reigns superior. Here is The Sandpiper’s review of popular hot chips.

TAKIS BLUE HEAT

Delicious, spicy and mouth-watering are all adjectives that should not be used to describe these chips. While this variant of Takis is advertised as having a “fiery chile pepper” flavor, there is minimal to zero flavor whatsoever. While seeking to taste the (nonexistent) flavor of the chip, I had to taste multiple chips before I could even taste a hint of “flavor,” if that’s what you want to call it. Takis Blue Heat can best be described as Takis Fuego’s stale estranged cousin.

Chesters

CHESTER’S FLAMING HOT FRIES

Chester’s are a severe disappointment. Overall, there is nothing that sticks out about the supposedly “spicy” chip. Similar to Takis Blue Heat, there is a complete lack of flavor. Consuming the chip is a rather painstaking and treacherous journey not worth anyone’s time. Though this rating was supposed to be of hot chips, Chester’s has zero spice.

5/10

Funyun’s

FUNYUNS FLAMIN’ HOT

As for a hot chip, Funyuns do have a strong savory taste while also being an extremely light snack. The tangy lemon taste from these crunchy chips is of high quality, but these chips won’t qualify as No. 1. Honestly, there is nothing significant about this specific variant of hot chip that makes it stick out in a crowd.

Munchies

MUNCHIES FLAMING HOT SNACK MIX

The one and only hot snack mix on the list, Munchies, does not disappoint. As a mix of Sun Chips, pretzels, Hot Cheetos and Doritos, Munchies are the perfect hot chip mix for anyone who can not handle extreme spice. The unique taste of this chip mix certainly separates it from the bunch.

8/10

Flaming Hot Cheetos

FLAMIN’ HOT CHEETOS CON LIMON

If heaven on earth could describe a hot chip, it would be these. Though they do have lots of spice and have a strong lime flavor, their most notable quality is that these chips preserve the taste of the original Cheetos–but better. The tangy, spicy (but not too spicy) flavor will really knock your socks off.

9/10

Takis Fuego

TAKIS FUEGO

Oh Takis, the best hot chip on the market and fit for a king. Takis have the most superb flavoring on top of a twirled tortilla chip, unlike any other hot chip of its kind. Takis are truly the trailblazer of the hot chip community and will always be the correct choice. Reliable, resilient and ruthless, I love you.
