Sonia Ikemiya, a longtime staff member and parent at Carmel schools, has joined Carmel High as a paraeducator.
Her role consists of aiding a student in their academic success and ensuring the student has the support they need throughout the day. Ikemiya enjoys this role, not only because she also provided similar support as a seventh grade paraeducator at the middle school last year, but also because she sees many familiar faces around campus.
“I love the middle school, and I was scared to make that change to a new school, but I’m glad I did,” says the parent of three. “It’s been fun seeing students grow and change and the differences in maturity from the middle school to the high school.”
Prior to taking on the role of paraeducator, Ikemiya taught math and was a full-time substitute teacher for Carmel schools. She also taught language arts and history at Clovis Unified School District in the Central Valley.
“I love CHS so far,” Ikemiya says. “It’s been feeling like home already. Reconnecting with the kids is what I’ve been enjoying as well as meeting the teachers and meeting new friends.”
