Choirs unite for district-wide music event

The Carmel Unified School District’s annual Choral Festival, a night when all the district choral classes collaborate for one concert, drew in a full house on March 3 at the Sunset Center.

At the helm of the middle school and high school performances was choir teacher Tom Lehmkuhl, while three elementary schools were led by teachers Erinn Barca-Hall and Gene Short.

The audience was serenaded with performances of songs ranging from the playful performance of “We May Not Be Vampires (But We’re Still Men!)” from the CMS Boys’ Choir to the more somber “Famine Song” by the CHS Chamber Choir. The final song performed by all the schools, “Children of Peace,” was an uplifting performance that paralleled the effort it took the district choirs to work together.

“The combined choir finale brings together more than 200 voices all united,” Lehmkuhl says of his favorite part of the show. “It’s a privilege to be a part of such a celebration of singing.”
