For those interested in becoming published poets, the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts is hosting its 22nd annual Monterey County High School Poetry Awards on May 2.
As part of its “Thinking Out Loud” exhibition of high school art, currently enrolled local high school students of all grades are encouraged to submit original poems, which should not exceed 40 lines of English or Spanish but are otherwise unrestricted in content, form or meter.
Entries must be typed, each with the author’s name, address and phone number, and mailed to the Cherry Center for the Arts, P.O. Box 863, Carmel, CA 93921, by March 27.
The winning selections will be published in a small volume, and there will be a reading and ceremony. Cash awards will be presented.
Stop by English teacher Dale DePalatis’ room with any questions about this opportunity.
