Basketball dominant despite losing Pearson and Rudolph

Even with Devon Pearson and Hank Rudolph gone,Carmelboys’ basketball will have a strong, tall, senior-dominated team.

Although height is helpful, the Padres have other factors which point to their future success.

“This team has a lot of chemistry because the seniors have been playing together since freshman year,” senior Sam Sunde says.

According to head coach Rich Frank, leadership will also play an important role as the seniors will provide guidance to the highly potential underclassmen.

“Our goals are to play hard, to play smart and to play together,” Frank says. “We emphasize defense, rebounding and overall individual and team discipline. If we do this, the process of winning and losing will take care of itself.”

Success is not something new to Padres basketball. Last season, the team clinched the MTAL championship with a league record of 13-1; their only loss came by four points in the final game against Stevenson.

“This is a title run year,” senior Hunter Garrison says. “This is a back-to-back-to-back championship team, and we are taking it all the way in CCS.”

Senior Mason Braun adds that the key to success in the Central Coast Section is having a united team.

It is clearly not a rebuilding year for the Padres.
