Though class elections have come to a close, current ASB President Lily Trytten’s impact on Carmel High will be lasting, and her pursuit of leadership is far from over.
The senior came about leadership by chance when it was the only available class as an alternative to P.E. her freshmen year, and it has been a part of her life ever since.
“I try to take leadership wherever I go and always be the one to take initiative and be friendly,” Trytten says. “I think ASB is really about being a leader in the sense that you make the right decisions and make yourself a good example for others.”
Trytten was elected secretary and treasurer of her sophomore class, and junior year she held the position of ASB vice president.
“Lily is exactly what ASB needs,” junior class president Ashley Parker explains. “She’s a natural leader, and more than that she’s a role model for both the student body and upcoming leaders on campus.”
And in addition to her impact on campus, Trytten’s leadership has spread much greater than the radius of Carmel High. This past week, Trytten finished her year serving on the California Association of Student Leaders Board, a position available to only 20 high school students in the state.
“It’s been a great experience to meet new people, especially those at CASL, and have the opportunity to build relationships and impact others,” Trytten reflects. “I love people.”
However, as Trytten’s fourth and final year of Carmel High ASB comes to a close, she is still planning the role leadership will play in her life both during and after college.
This fall, Trytten will be attending ColgateUniversity to study biology and Spanish, but involvement in leadership will not be left behind.
“I see myself being a member of student senate, student council and other leadership entities on campus.”
It is Trytten’s dream to go into politics after she retires and always remain involved in it.
“Lily is the definition of a leader, because she is always putting this school ahead of herself,” ASB advisor Leigh Cambra says. “It’s been wonderful to see her grow into a mature and talented woman these last four years.”
