With autumn here to stay, we are greeted with pumpkin chai lattes, the beginning of the school year and an assortment of movies to get into the fall vibes. These picks range from horror films to the most iconic vampire franchise of all time to childhood classics. So grab a cozy blanket and hot apple cider, turn on your TV and trust in The Sandpiper’s top autumn-themed media.
“It”
A classic tale of prepubescent teens saving their small town from a killer, “It” is one of the most iconic horror films you must watch before the autumn season slips away. Stephen King, the creator of the most disturbingly perfect horror tales, understands how to not only frighten his audience, but also incorporate complexities in every character. The sequel, which follows the same killer-clown-slayers grown up, will also have you sitting on the edge of your seat eager to find what the next possible plot twist could be.
“Hocus Pocus”
Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy really bring a whole new sense of whimsy and magic to this franchise. As the leaves fall and the air turns crisp, rewatching young Max Dennison discovers a haven of witches should be on everyone’s autumn bucket list.
“Smile”
While watching “Smile” for the first time, I physically jumped out of my seat multiple times. Full of jump scares and horrifying plot twists, “Smile” may not be for those with more sensitive stomachs. But for those horror film junkies looking to frighten themselves once more, they need not look any further.
“Coraline”
If you are craving a movie that will send you down a rabbit hole for weeks to come, “Coraline” is your answer. At first glance, it’s a fun watch and visually appealing, but take a closer look. There are endless Easter Eggs and details that will keep you occupied.
“Twilight”
Without a doubt, “Twilight” is genuinely the most pivotal vampire movie franchise, influencing generations since the early 2000s. Though the plot is something out of a fever dream and the acting is genuinely cringe-worthy, which is exactly what brings the “Twilight” series so much charm. Spend this fall in cozy pajamas, debating whether you are Team Edward or Team Jacob–the one and only right answer is Team Edward.
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”
A childhood classic, Charlie Brown will not only bring the autumn vibes you desire to life, but the hints of nostalgia are something that no one can pass up. With the start of fall, rewatching Linus and his love for the giant pumpkin while carving your very own is a necessity.
