Senior Sandpiper Sendoff

Published June 4th, 2025

BY DANIELA FOLEY

As graduation inches closer, the seniors of the 2024-25 Sandpiper staff are preparing to leave the nest and take flight into their futures. The group of five seniors on staff this year were truly inspirational, as they consistently chose to work harder and always left a smile on our faces. As each takes a different path to achieve their goals following high school, whether pursuing athletics or journalism or more, this group will find success, as the manner in which they approached writing for the Sandpiper was outstanding. On behalf of The Sandpiper, thank you and good luck.

Avery, a three-year staff writer and current editor-in-chief, shows what it means to be a true journalist. The passion that Avery brings to the paper gives its sparkle, and she is surely one of the main reasons you, as a reader, decided to thumb through the June issue. For Avery, writing any article, whether uncovering local history or writing an opinion piece, is an art. During her time at CHS, Avery has won three consecutive Monterey County Courtroom Journalist Competitions, as well as the California High School Mock Trial Courtroom Journalist Competition in 2024 when she advanced to the National High School Mock Trial Championship. Next year, Avery will join her sister, also a former editor of The Sandpiper, at the University of Missouri to study Strategic Communications.
