Senior Alejandro Martinez-Resendiz drives about three hours every day, often getting home from practice in the early morning, to start for competitive youth soccer academy Breakers F.C. whom he helped lead to a third place in North America title in the last club season and will be representing at the Top 22 showcase before returning to the Carmel High School team in late winter.
Martinez-Resendiz recorded 10 goals and five assists in the last high school season. The boys’ team ended the league season 3-7-2.

“It’s a tight schedule, but I never get tired,” says Martinez-Resendiz. “It’s so rewarding to play for such a strong team. We all just want to perform well.”
In the current club season, he has recorded six assists and three goals in the last 10 games as one of their major offensive weapons. Martinez-Resendiz is a well-rounded player, but what really stands out is his ball control.
“Any dirty ball that I get, I can keep controlled,” says Martinez-Resendiz. “As a midfielder, it’s my job to be able to control and place the ball well for my team.”
The senior represented Breakers F.C. in Palm Springs on Dec. 7 for the Top 22 showcase, which was streamed on Apple TV. The senior has played for Breakers F.C. for the last three years.
“I play against the best of the best,” says Martinez-Resendiz. “Sometimes when the team is at a tournament we book the same hotel as another team and that other team is carrying active Major League Soccer players.”
The midfielder grew up playing soccer, but says his uncle was his biggest inspiration when he was young. Now with his two-hour daily commute and getting home late at night or early in the morning, he says support from his family and love of the game is what keeps him motivated.
