Though the first three games were unfortunate losses for Carmel High’s varsity girls’ soccer team, they do have an ace up their sleeve: Mia Muegge acts as a co-captain, a striker and a sweeper, and gives her all in each role.
“She models what it is to be an excellent athlete during practice and during games,” Carmel coach Whitney Grummon says. “She’s a great communicator and has real leadership on the team.”
So what gives Muegge her edge?
“I honestly just try to work really hard no matter if it is a game or just practice,” Muegge explains.
The senior also believes that staying optimistic and acting as a leader is important to her game.
“I go out and play my best,” Muegge says.
Grummon agrees with this assessment: “She’s always focused. She is always giving 100% of both her mind and body on the soccer field.”
Muegge first started playing soccer in the second grade—“I just mostly enjoyed going to the field and kicking a ball around with some friends—and her interest in the German National Soccer Team played a part in her inspiration to play.
Though the first few games of the season were losses for CHS, Muegge is confident in the Padres.
“The team is looking great this season,” she says. “We have a solid team with a lot of talent. My goal for the team is to make it to CCS, which we have a good shot at.”
Muegge also hopes to pursue soccer in college next year.
