Junior Anna Rasmussen has kicked off the spring sports season as a key asset on the girls’ lacrosse team, with impressive stats in three varsity sports, all while participating in a variety of different performing arts.

“Anna is the kind of athlete who brings relentless energy every time she steps on the field,” says Sophia White, the CHS girls’ lacrosse head coach. “She truly embodies the idea that iron sharpens iron–she elevates everyone around her.”

This year in lacrosse, Rasmussen plays attack and has 21 assists and 14 goals as of April 23, acting as a key player on the team, which is 5-1 in league so far.

Rasmussen is also a strong player on the girls’ soccer team, having played the game since she was 3 years old. Although she spent previous years as a midfielder, this year she was the goalkeeper, ending the season with 56 saves.

“She is a rare human being,” explains Steve Russell, the CHS girls’ soccer coach. “Anna has impressed me with her hard work, natural athletic talent, her mature approach to the game and how she carries herself on and off the field.”

As the wide receiver on the flag football team, she ended the season with nine receiving touchdowns and 204 rushing yards, continuing to motivate the team as they went to CCS.

“She has a tenacity in the way she approaches the game,” says Phil Johnston, the CHS flag football coach. “It seems like she gets better with every snap of the ball.”

Sports also allowed Rasmussen to connect with a variety of people, leading to bittersweet moments like this year’s senior night, where she had to say goodbye to a team that she had played with since middle school.

“It’s a sad moment knowing I’m never going to play with them again,” she explains, “but also special because I get to see them move on to the next big things in their life.”

The junior explains how important those moments are, especially when she gets to experience it with her team, emphasizing how much she enjoys the social aspect of sports, whether it’s celebrating with her teammates or meeting new people.

“The team is my favorite part,” says Rasmussen. “Winning feels especially good when you have your team there to celebrate with.”

Despite being put into sports at a young age, Rasmussen found her passion in middle school, with her success in soccer and basketball being her earliest experiences in more competitive sports.

Continuing to pursue a variety of sports through high school, Rasmussen played both varsity girls’ field hockey and flag football in the fall of her freshman year alone, along with varsity girls’ soccer and lacrosse in the winter and spring.

Outside of sports Rasmussen also participates in a variety of performing arts, including concert band and pit orchestra for the CHS production of “Fame,” as well as video production and Musical Theater at the Dance Center.

“In middle school, I was doing sports, but I wasn’t really getting what I wanted out of it,” explains the junior, who began musical theater in eighth grade. “I started branching out, but I didn’t stop playing sports, I found a balance.”

Despite not having any plans to play college sports, Rasmussen hopes to continue playing sports into her future, even if it’s just through club sports and not something she directly pursues.

Whether she is playing music off the field or supporting her team on the field, Rasmussen plays a vital role in each of her activities.
