Inspired by her own interest in anesthesiology, senior Samantha Hart introduced the Future Physicians Club with likeminded classmates to create a space where CHS students interested in healthcare can explore the diversity and growth that the world of medicine has to offer.
“We all want to go into a healthcare career,” senior Ryan Lott says. “Most of us don’t know what kind of healthcare career, so we wanted a club that could teach us about different options and opportunities and educate people.”
In their first meeting, the Future Physicians Club had firefighter paramedic Andrew Melendrez educate students about this profession. He spoke to the members about day-to-day expectations, pros and cons, salary and how he climbed the career ladder in the firefighter station to get to his position.

Although the club has only met once, they plan to have medical professionals come speak at future meetings and give insight on their individual jobs, where several of these speakers will be presenting in CHS Sports Medicine class as well. The Future Physicians club believes that having guest speakers will provide members with a great amount of job exposure.
Club officers want to emphasize that this club is very relaxed and all the club projects and activities will encourage deep thinking, but not be stressful.
“We’ll have a couple of meetings without the speakers to go over what we want to continue doing,” Hart says. “We will also have a couple of projects that we are going to work on to explore different fields.”
“I don’t know too much about the club yet since it’s just getting off the ground, but it seems like a motivated group of students,” CHS science teacher Kevin Buran comments. “They’ve already brought in a guest speaker, which is a great start.”
Whether students are interested in becoming doctors, psychologists, or pediatricians–or are just curious–the Future Physicians club allows for exploration and a welcome environment to question and connect with other people.
Club meetings take place on Fridays every other week in Room 3.
