Carmel High School’s new instrumental music director, Sarah Wadsworth, has shifted from teaching young musicians at Carmel Middle School last year to instructing at CHS this fall.
“The transition to the high school from the middle school has actually been super smooth because it’s all of my students I have had in the past,” Wadsworth says. “This group of young musicians is all familiar faces, and they’re just great people and super talented.”
Now teaching for her 18th year, Wadsworth will teach guitar, concert band, string orchestra and jazz workshop at CHS. Prior to working in the Carmel Unified School District, the music lover taught in New York City for eight years. Now, she is eager to continue teaching the same group of young students, following their progress during their transition from middle school to high school.
“I’ve always said that my job is not to teach music, but to teach kids to be better humans through music,” notes the band teacher.
Not only is Wadsworth eager to teach students and develop their abilities as performers, but she is also ready to leave a lasting impression on her students that goes beyond what happens in the classroom.
