After a decade of multidimensional mind-bending, the Emmy-winning phenomenon “Stranger Things” has closed its story with a finale viewed by over a billion people worldwide, yet among the faces of familiar characters, the final episode has launched a Monterey native’s path to stardom.

From an early age, Maks Blatt knew he wanted to pursue the arts. When other kids were watching shows for the stories, Blatt was looking at the behind-the-scenes footage, which inspired his passion to act. As a fan of the show already, when the opportunity to audition arose, he didn’t hesitate.

“I was so excited,” Blatt says. “It was completely mind-blowing.”

The five-season series began in 2016, with most of the cast playing their roles for years. The final season ties the narrative to a close by finally revealing the origins of the villain, Vecna, also known as Henry Creel. That backstory unlocked the door for a younger version of the character…and an unexpected opportunity.

In late 2023, just before the show began filming, Blatt was notified that the position for young Henry was open for auditions. Working with his manager, Andrea Courtney, and the Exclusive Artists Agency, Blatt prepared to submit his self-tape audition.

“It was very scary because it was my first audition ever and emotionally heavy,” Blatt explains.

Then he waited. No callbacks or additional auditions. When the news finally arrived that he had booked the role, the Monterey local was thrilled to know that he would be a part of one of the most iconic television series in the last decade.

The young actor spent about a month in Atlanta, filming on set, taking in the experience and finding his way around the set.

“The entire cast and crew were so welcoming and supportive,” Blatt says. “Since this was my first time filming, it was very intimidating, but they helped make me very comfortable.”

Even after stepping into the spotlight, Maks finds balancing school and acting manageable, even when occasional morning auditions make him miss a class or two. He enjoys public school, although he is open to switching to online learning if his acting schedule demands more.

Since coming off the show, Maks Blatt has grown in confidence from his spotlight role and has been pleasantly surprised by the number of positive comments on social media. These encouraging responses made him eager for what comes next, and he is auditioning for roles in local productions and aspiring for another big screen production.

“I’m so shocked and certainly proud that Maks got to be involved in such a monumental show,” Maks’ father Richard Blatt explains. “He is such a talented kid, and I look forward to seeing him grow in the future.”

For this local star, “Stranger Things” may have closed its final chapter, but his own story is just beginning.
