CHSF $100K scholarship challenge deadline imminent

The deadline for the $100,000 Carmel High School Foundation matching challenge is fast approaching, but so far, the foundation is far from its goal.

After the CHSF approached an anonymous donor willing to donate up to $100,000 earlier this year, the foundation began a dollar-for-dollar matching campaign to raise a total of $200,000, which could possibly double the Permanent Scholarship Fund totaling an approximately $400,000. As of Dec. 5, the foundation had raised $15,000, a total of $30,000 with the dollar-for-dollar matching, but there is still time to donate before the Dec. 31 deadline.

Typically, 60 students apply for the holistically evaluated scholarship each year, 25 are interviewed by the committee, and at least 20 are awarded scholarships between $150 and $1,300 of the $10,000 allocated for each class. However, if the $100,000 is met, $20,000 would be available for each class.

According to scholarship chairman Dale DePalatis, the hope of the challenge is to increase both the quantity and the number of recipients of scholarships. DePalatis adds that it is his personal aim to eventually expand the one-time grant to a four-year scholarship as well.
