Nicole Buice is the new long-term sub for the Integrated Math 1 class at Carmel High School. With her bubbly personality and supportive teaching, she creates a welcoming environment for her students.

Heather Roman, the full-time Integrated Math 1 teacher, had to leave due to the birth of Calea, her third child. Buice has taken her place for the rest of the school year.

Buice has taught at schools ranging from middle school to high school and has taught math from Pre-Algebra to Integrated Math 3. Before coming to CHS, she was an administrator full time at Chartwell, a school in Seaside.

“As admin at Chartwell, I would help the director,” says Buice. “It was mostly organization as well as project and field trip planning. I hand created all of the students’ schedules, too.”

She taught math at Central Coast High School in Seaside for four years and Chartwell School for three years, as well as a school in Florida and Ohio. Buice was taking a break from teaching for a couple of months before she was offered the job at CHS.

Buice went to a small college in Ohio, called Cedarville University. She majored in math as well as high school education.

After the school year comes to an end, Buice plans to keep subbing at CHS.

“I really like teaching here,” says Buice. “The students are great, and I love math. I didn’t realize how much I missed math when I was taking my break from teaching, and I really enjoy it.”

Sophomore Daniela Linarez shares that Buice cares about her students’ work, and she helps her students really understand it.

“She’s someone who you can really relate to,” says junior Danna Macias. “She does a good job at explaining things in a simplified manner, and she’s really easy to talk to. Overall a very kind soul.”

Buice has always worked for specialized schools with the exception of one public school in Florida.

“Ms. Buice is very good at teaching,” says sophomore Marilyn Piceno. “I was confused on who was going to teach us, but everybody loves Ms. Buice.”
