CHS homecoming theme saves the day

Homecoming is one of the most anticipated events of the school year with activities like the dance, the parade and, of course, the game.

This year’s theme is superheroes, with the seniors’ hero being Superman, the juniors’ Batman, the sophomores’ Captain America and the freshmen’s X-Men.

As always, the homecoming parade will take place Friday at 4 p.m. to display each class float, decorated with its specific theme, along Ocean Avenue. This year there will be a fun twist as the event will also coincide with Halloween.

Students are encouraged by organizers to get involved by helping to build their class float on Wednesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. near the pool, and flatbed trucks are always needed as the base on which floats will be built.

New traditions will also be flying in to CHS as well. For instance, there will be a competition between grade levels to see which class can collect the most canned/non-perishable food items for We Scare Hunger. The winning class will be given MYO at lunch on Oct. 31.; however, donations will also be accepted after the competition, held in Mission Fields and Paso Hondo on Halloween night.

Admission to the game is free with an ASB stamp and will take place on Nov. 1. The game will be followed by the dance at 8 p.m., with admission costing $10 with an ASB stamp, $15 without and $20 for non-CHS guests.
