Carmel High School’s athletic department has new energy this spring, thanks to the recently hired athletics secretary, Christina Epega, who began work in March and is already settling into her new role.
As she arranges her workspace and fills it with small pieces of her personality, Epega brings with her a lifelong passion for sports and the community surrounding them.

“I love sports,” Epega says. “I have three boys, and they’re all sporty. I grew up playing sports and loved them in high school.”
At her high school in Massachusetts, opportunities for female athletes were limited, so she played on the boys’ soccer team for a year before deciding to take matters into her own hands.
“We rallied and started our own soccer team for the girls my sophomore year,” says the longtime athlete, “and we made it all the way to the state semi-finals.”
This love of the game has shaped her determination and commitment to ensuring athletics are accessible to all students. Now, after living in California for 20 years and previously working on private business ventures, she’s excited to become part of the CHS community.
“It’s really important for high schoolers to be involved in sports,” Epega explains. “It helps socially, mentally and teaches you life lessons, so I’m just happy to be a part of the team.”
Epega’s three sons attend local schools—two at All Saints Day School and one at York School—so the rhythm of student life is already familiar to her.
“I’m most excited to get to meet all the players, spend more time on campus and watch more games,” she says.
For Christina Epega, the athletics office is more than paperwork and schedules—it’s a front-row seat to the spirit of CHS sports.
