Elina Nizamova, a Moscow native, joined the current junior class at CHS during last year’s spring semester in hopes of making new friends, learning more about American culture and pursuing her interests in the performing arts.
Prior to the CHS’s transition to distance learning, Nizamova enjoyed traveling the world and singing within her Christian Orthodox church’s choir. While those activities may not be the safest right now with the current circumstances, Nizamova has learned to express her creativity through other modes, one of which has been consistently creating short videos through extremely popular video-sharing app TikTok.
As a social and interactive person both in social situations and the performing arts, the Moscow native has even grown a fondness for certain extreme and adrenaline-rushing sports over the years, including skiing, surfing and even parasailing.
Outside of distance learning and a plethora of unique athletic interests, Nizamova enjoys watching Russian and American TV shows and movies, including Hulu’s “The Great,” a historical comedy-drama about Russian empress Catherine the Great, and The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” whose recognizable cast members, Zach Roerig and Michael Trevino, she met while they were on set in Georgia.
Despite the abrupt change in events people across the world have seen unfold this year, the new Carmel resident is motivated to enjoy life to the fullest, no matter what circumstances the world may bring.
“Life is very short, and you wanna spend it on something that you want and enjoy,” Nizamova says. “You need to take as much as you can from life before it is too late.”
